About

Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, where

and natural bath products are made fresh.
We’ve been on the topic of face care for the past few posts because it’s such an important topic for the way you look, feel and your general well-being. Now we’ll move on to the topic of acne and how you can treat it using Wick-edly Sent’s Acne Detox Soap.
Most people think of acne as a teenage complaint, but in fact, acne can be a challenge at any age. Acne is caused by blockages in skin follicles. These blockages collect bacteria and can result in blackheads, inflammation or red splotching.
Some of the causes of Acne are:
Heredity
Puberty
Heightened Stress levels
Dead skin cells that aren’t exfoliated
Bacteria
Scratching
Adverse reaction to medications
Some chemicals
Not all people are affected by these factors and different people react to some more than others.
There are a variety of ways to get rid of acne as well as to reduce the signs of it. If you are prone to severe cases, we recommend you see your dermatologist for medical treatment.
Whether your case is mild or severe, most doctors agree that you lower the risk of acne breakouts by cleansing your face regularly with a soap designed specifically to treat acne.
In our Acne Detox Soap we use an all natural blend starting with fuller’s earth clay as a base to pull toxins from your skin. We also add real lavender and tea tree essential oil and combine these ingredients with oatmeal to balance and calm your skin. We recommend that you use the soap regularly, but sparingly, and discontinue use if skin irritation occurs.
Our all natural acne detox soap is available in 4.6 oz. bars and retails for $6.50. Cleanse your face gently with it and you’re on your way to a clean, clear, acne-free face.
If you read our article “5 Tips for Healthy Summer Skin and Face,” you know how important it is to use a gentle and natural face wash and toner, not only for the summer, but for all year ’round. Regular cleansing, both morning and night, removes dirt that clogs pores and it also lessens environmental impact on the skin.
At Wick-edly Sent, we have created a wonderful product that combines these two essential steps - washing and toning - in one all natural product.
We use the Botanical Complex HC™, composed of Rosemary, Lavender, Rose, Nettle, and Lemon Grass, to create a face wash and toner that will leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed. The Botanical Complex HC™ was created specifically to be used for skin and hair care products and offers gentle but effective cleansing. As a base for our face wash and toner, we use olive oil that not only gets the skin clean, but acts as a toner as well, to reduce oils and inflamation, helping to promote a smoother, healthier skin.
Our all natural Face Wash and Toner comes in a 4 oz. bottle and sells for $6.50. It can be purchased in our store in Canandaigua, NY or ordered through our online store.
Ah, summer! Picnics, ball games, swimming in the pool or at the beach, boating, gardening, hiking and just enjoying the out-of-doors…these are the wonders of summer! But all these activities can put the skin at risk for over-exposure to the elements and skin cell damage. During summer months, It is especially important to develop a regular practice of healthy skin and face care.
Cleanse Daily - Use a gentle cleanser morning and night that rids the body of harmful pore clogging elements. Be sure that you remove makeup before going to bed and look for face cleansing and toning products rich in antioxidants to promote healthy skin.
Drink Plenty of Water - Water is important for cell hydration. Since approximately 65% of the human body is composed of water, replenishing water is essential for healthy summer skin and face care. Drink six to eight glasses of water each day to cleanse the body of toxins and to rehydrate.
Eat foods high in antioxidants - By selecting foods that are high in antioxidants, you reduce free radicals that damage cells. According to the USDA, a diet high in antioxidants reduces the risk of many diseases and promotes health throughout the body. As a general rule of thumb, the brighter the fruit or vegetable color, the higher they are in antioxidants.
Use Moisurizer - A moisturizer acts as a shield against harsh environmental elements that can age the skin. For healthy summer skin and face care, choose a moisturizer that contains antioxidants and natural products.
Use Sun Screen - As popular as it is to have a healthy sun-kissed glow, the sun is skin’s worst enemy! Unprotected exposure to sun can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, skin damage and skin cancer. Even for those with darker skin tones who say they don’t burn, it is important to use a sunscreen with a high SPF rating that protects tender skin cells against the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
Follow these 5 tips and you’re on your way to healthy summer skin and face care! Watch for our next post on Wick-edly Sent’s Face Care Products that include antioxidants and other natural products that help create and sustain a great complexion.
If you love walking into a room that has a light, delicate lingering scent in the air, you’ll love Wickedly Sent’s Reed Diffusers.
Reed Diffusers are a decorative and environmentally friendly way to scent and freshen your home, office or dorm room. We’ve just added a new twist to our diffusers! Now, you can select both a beautiful glass bottle that will go with your decor, the fragrance that best fits your mood or the mood you want to convey, then simply slip the reeds in the bottle. As the scent travels up the reeds, the aroma gently wafts throughout the room creating a delightful ambience.
Depending on your personality, you might select something exotic and oriental like Jasmine Waterlily, which is great for the living or bath room, or you may prefer something bold and outdoorsy like Woods ‘n Spice. Looking for something in a more floral bouquet? Try Lilac or Sunflower Reed Diffusers. A favorite for the bedroom is Lavender, which many people say helps them to relax and sleep better.
Each of our Reed Diffusers have similar properties to aromatherapy, ensuring you’ll enjoy a warm sense of well-being from using them scattered strategically throughout your home. For each scent, we have suggested rooms in which we feel they’ll work best, but don’t be afraid to experiment…and please send us your suggestions!
One of the advantages of Reed Diffusers is that you can enjoy the scent for months without having to replace them, and you’ll never have to worry about remembering to blow out a candle when you leave home.

In honor of Father’s Day and to wish you and your Dad a a wonderful celebration, we’d like to share one of our favorite quotes about Fathers:
It doesn’t matter who my father was;
it matters who I remember he was.
Does your Father (Husband, or Significant Other) shave with shaving cream? Consider introducing him to the wonders of Wick-edly Sent’s Shaving Oil if you’re looking for a unique Father’s Day Gift, birthday present or “Just because” surprise. We’re sure he’ll thank you for it!
Many men shave with shaving cream, because they don’t know any better. It’s what their fathers did. While shaving cream lathers richly, it’s really just air-filled foam. It does little, if anything to moisturize or protect the skin. We invite you to introduce your guy to our Mens Shaving Product.
At Wick-edly Sent, we’ve developed a Shaving Oil specially formulated to moisturize as it nourishes with a botanical complex of Burdock, Elder Flower, Lavender, Calendula, and Cleavers. We add Vitamin E - great for the skin - which reduces nicks and cuts. The essential oil of spearmint is added for an invigorating and refreshing scent which offers therapeutic benefits such as:
For the Skin - It works on acne and dermatitis, it detoxes, relieves itching, softens and degreases skin, removes blackheads, and cools the skin.
For the Head: it relieves headache, mental exhaustion, and nervous stress.
Although each bottle is only 2 oz., it will give up to 400 shaves, making it much more environmentally conscientious than tins of shaving cream. Wick-edly Sent’s 2 oz. container of Shaving Oil is $15.95, which comes out to a little less than $.04 per shave, so this is not just any Mens shaving product, it’s one that’s good for the body, the earth, and the budget!
Interestingly enough, Father’s Day can be credited to the inspiration and work of two separate women.
The first known Father’s Day was celebrated on July 5, 1908. Grace Golden Clayton, a member of the William Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church in Fairmont, West Virginia proposed the idea after hearing of a mining explosion in nearby Monongah that killed 361 men the previous December. It was her way of recognizing their sacrifice.
The following year, in 1909, a woman name Sonora Smart Dodd listened to a sermon about Mother’s Day at her church in Spokane, Washington. After her mother had died in childbirth following the delivery of her sixth child, her father Henry Jackson Smart, a Civil War Veteran, raised the six children alone. The sermon inspired her to work toward the start of Father’s Day as a way to show her father how much she appreciated the loving, courageous and selfless contributions he made toward their family. She chose June of the following year for the first celebration because her father had been born in that month.
In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge recommended Father’s Day become a national holiday. The tradition quickly caught on and across the U.S., and people began paying homage to fathers and father-figures on that day.
It wasn’t until 1966 that President Lyndon B. Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as the official day to celebrate the event, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon declared Father’s Day a national day of observance.
So on June 21st, we at Wick-edly Sent will join you in recognizing and paying homage and tribute to the men in our lives who are our fathers or who have acted like fathers in guiding our paths and leading the way.
The lucious mango has been cultivated on the South Asian continent for thousands of years. It became popular with travelers to the region because of its sweet and unique flavor and it was soon planted throughout East Asia, East Africa, Brazil, the West Indies and Mexico.
Today, the mango is raised in many areas of the world that have frost-free tropical climates. Lovers of the mango need not feel guilty eating it because the mango has been proclaimed a “superfruit” due of its high levels of antioxidants and other properties that contribute to health.
Bite into a ripe sweet juicy mango and you immediately think of summer! That’s why Wick-edly Sent has chosen Mango as June’s Scent of the Month.

Have you ever driven past some of Canandaigua’s beautiful historic sites and thought, “I should go there some time”? Maybe you’ve even thought, “Canandaigua has such gorgeous architecture…I wish I knew more about that building.”
A new program called “Podcast2thepast,” launched by our own Finger Lakes Visitors Connection in collaboration with the Steuben County Tourism Bureau, showcases several of Canandaigua’s treasures in short, 2-3 minute podcasts. A podcast is a pre-recorded audio program that’s posted to a website and is made available for easy download.
Canandaigua’s treasures that are currently showcased on Podcast2thepast are:
The podcasts also feature other fascinating destinations of historical and architectural interest in Ontario and Steuben Counties such as several wineries, the town of Clifton Springs, Corning’s Gaffer District and more.
One of the innovative features about this program is that the podcasts also “package” a number of different attractions into offerings that would be of interest to visitors, such as the “Stretch Yourself Getaway Experience” that highlights Sonnenberg Gardens, Granger Museum, Historic Clifton Springs and Bully Hill Vineyards. This will encourage more visitors to take in multiple attractions.
Visit the Podcast2thePast website for an interesting photo gallery with some great historic photos, and a calendar of events.

At Wick-edly Sent, we pride ourselves in the high quality, all natural olive oil soap that we make onsite at our store in Canandaigua, N.Y.
To make our olive oil soap, we combine three different types of oil - palm, coconut and olive oil - to create a product that lathers well, has a solid consistency to last long and provides moisture for the skin. The olive oil leaves your skin feeling smooth and silky, but with no greasy residue.
After we combine the oils, we bake the mixture which comes out looking a lot like mashed potatoes. At this point we add a combination of fragrances and/or essential oils to our olive oil soap before we pour it in the mold to harden overnight.
But rather than tell you our whole process, why don’t we demonstrate how we make our fine olive oil soap? So come along with us now as we share our secrets of making a luxurious, high quality olive oil soap available only from Wick-edly Sent in more than a dozen different fragrances.
